Guest/Yarn Room Update

Posted on Monday, December 3rd, 2007 at 5:05 pm

We finally finished the upstairs guest room/yarn room. Kevin painted and I organized, organized, organized and organized.

To refresh your memory here is one little “before” picture. As far as the rest of the room, we had a double bed, no dresser and more yarn bags were strewn about. It was not the best room. In fact, and to be honest,  it was quite a mess!

Now it is a room to be proud of. As you walk into the room you see the pretty new paint and new queen size bed. Guests will be comfortable in here. I no longer have to shove aound bags of yarn to clear them a spot.

Facing the bed is a new dresser that Kevin bought unfinished and finished himself along with a TV for watching Knitting Gritty, of course.  The picture there is from France.  (There may be more yarn in the closet and dresser but we can save that for a rainy day.

As you turn to the right you see a light, and a comfy chair complete with a Shiatsu Massage. Very nice to be in while knitting. Behind the chair are hooks for my bags. Yes some of them have yarn/projects in them.

Keep turning to the right and you can see the YARN! Lots of yarn, lots of projects waiting for me. Hanging on the chair is an old quilt that my Great, Grandmother made.

On the wall to the left I have some cool fabric maps from England and Scotland that I framed.

On the wall to the right are my yarn cubbies and shelves with magazines and even more projects. My books and pattern notebooks are on a bookshelf in the office. There is only so much room in here! Not to mention the books are pretty heavy for the shelves in here and it looks nicer to not crowd this up too much!

In case you are wondering, yes I do have even more yarn stored neatly in bins in the crawl spaces.  There is a crawl space on both sides of the room.

What room wouldn’t be complete without the “Little Princess” making herself comfortable.

Actually, Dina think this is her room. This seems to be where she hangs out all day. I would to, if I could. I hope you enjoyed all of my hard work. Now onto the rest of the house!

Mountain of Yarn

Organizing my yarn room is a work in progress and even though there is still work to be done DH, Princess Dina and I have made considerable progress. First DH painted the room a beautiful golden color called Bee Pollen. Then in order to organize properly a bigger mess had to be made so we had to make the mountain of yarn.

It is more than three big pillows high. Of course Princess Dina had to sleep on the job supervise the whole operation. Can you see the little mound of hair on the pillows behind the mountain of yarn. She always has to be right in the thick of things and get her 2 cents in.

Here is a better shot. Oh what a disaster. This is not all of my yarn, though so don’t get too excited. I also have this …

 and this …..

to still organize upstairs. Then I have more yarn baskets and bags downstairs. It never ends. Yarn has taken over every corner, nook and cranny of my home. I have been totally invaded by yarn. I also have yarn tucked away in the attic crawl space here….

The yarn needs a place of its own. I am tired of it being everywhere. After painting the room DH attached my storage bins to the wall for stability, because it just looks cool and I can reach the yarn better than having these setting on the floor. Things are starting to look pretty good but………. something is missing.

Oh yea …YARN!

Mmmm Dina is glad that part is done the sleeping supervising is just hard work.

I better move over to get a better view, my motto is leave no pillow untouched.

Aren’t you guys done yet?????

No, there is more to be done but we are on the down hill now and I am so excited that I will have a place for my yarn and yarn things. Then I just have to knit, knit and knit.

What’s Up

Posted on Wednesday, September 5th, 2007 at 12:04 pm

There is always something going on lately. I have been cleaning and organizing, my home, my office, my yarn room and more. I have been knitting, ripping, changing my mind and knitting again. I have been teaching, working and trying to get enough sleep. You know the usual stuff.
The yarn room is almost finished. I can’t show pictures just yet, I need time to paint. I will tackle the painting later this month. Then I can attach my storage bins and shelves to the wall and I will have a pretty cool yarn stash room. Stay tuned, this will be a must see.

Meanwhile, remember this mess ….. It was my office at work.

Well my office now looks like this …. thanks to DH.

Unfortunately my work is all still there…. just in more organized piles. It is much nicer to come into the office now. DH moved my utility table around so you don’t see it when you first walk in. One can see into my office from way down the hall and he said it looked more like walking into a storage room and not an office. It is so much better. Maybe now I can get all my work done. Ha!

I am working on this sock.

The yarn is Claudia’s Handpainted yarn in the color Purple Earth. My friend Kathy gave me this yarn when she returned from her Sea Socks Cruise. I love the yarn. If the pattern looks familiar it is because I am making me the same pair of socks that I sent Joni, my Sockapalooza Four Pal. The only change I am making is that I am going to do a short row heel instead of the heel flap.

More about the progress of my Beaded Shawlette later. ttfn as my friend Maddy says!
